Why Roatan Cruise Port Shocked Us—in the Best Way

We’ve just hit Day 5 of our cruise onboard Wonder of the Seas, and today’s stop brings us to Roatan, Honduras.
Having visited a couple of times before—most recently in 2020—we didn’t exactly have high expectations. Back then, the port felt small and limited, with only a few shops catching our interest. Honestly, we figured we’d just hop off for a quick walk around and head right back to the ship.
But wow—were we in for a surprise.
Check out why Roatan Cruise Port shocked us—in the best way.
Relaxed Start to Our Morning
I slept in a bit and didn’t get moving until around 7:45am. I took a quick walk up to Deck 15 to check out the view of Roatan—and wow, the port really is stunning from above.

I grabbed a couple of iced lattes from the Windjammer and headed back to the room to wake Leah up and to get ready for the day ahead.
Breakfast Time
Since we weren’t in any rush to get off the ship, we opted for a relaxed breakfast in the Main Dining Room.
Leah ordered the breakfast burrito and loved it—it was a definite win. I went with the French toast, hash browns, and some fresh fruit. The French toast didn’t quite live up to the version we had on Oasis last year, but it still hit the spot.

We also made sure to enjoy some fresh-squeezed orange juice—gotta make the most of that Deluxe Beverage Package!
A Surprising Turn at the Roatan Cruise Port
After breakfast, we finally made our way off the ship to explore the port—and wow, what a difference from past visits! We hadn’t been big fans of Roatan before, but they’ve clearly made some major upgrades. The shopping area has expanded and felt much more inviting. The vendors weren’t pushy at all, and we actually enjoyed browsing through several shops that had unique and fun items.
One of the biggest surprises was the brand-new pool area, complete with a lazy river-style layout. It looked like a resort and added a completely new vibe to the port—clean, well-designed, and perfect for relaxing. We really had wished that we brought our swimsuits, towels, and sunscreen with us off of the ship so we could enjoy the new pool area.

Poolside Vibes & Afternoon Chill
We were back on the ship by around 10:00am and headed straight to the pool deck for some sun and a couple of refreshing watermelon margaritas. The sun was blazing, so after a bit we moved to the Solarium for some shade and a quick nap—it was the perfect spot to cool down and recharge.
Later, we grabbed lunch at El Loco Fresh, which absolutely hit the spot. Burritos, tacos, nachos… and yes, another round of margaritas from Cantina Fresca (they were definitely on the strong side!). The food was fresh and flavorful—easily one of our favorite casual spots onboard.
Back to Port: Poolside, Drinks & Good Vibes
As we relaxed in the Solarium, looking down at the newly renovated pool area in the port, we couldn’t stop thinking that we’d be missing out if we didn’t go back and experience it for ourselves. So, that’s exactly what we did. This was a first for us—getting off the ship twice in one day!

Once we got off, we made our way to the swim-up bar to get a drink. An added bonus—if you buy a drink, you can enjoy access to the pool, loungers, and even free Wi-Fi—such a great value. The atmosphere was really relaxed, the music was lively, and it ended up being the perfect way to wrap up our time in Roatan.
Caribbean Night in the Main Dining Room
After a relaxing afternoon, it was time to freshen up and get ready for dinner. Tonight’s theme in the Main Dining Room was Caribbean Night, and the menu did not disappoint.

Leah started with the Asian-Style Bao Tacos—a definite favorite. For her main course, she had the Jerk-Seasoned Pork Chop, followed by a slice of Carrot Cake for dessert.
I also enjoyed the Bao Tacos to start, then went with the Garlic Herb Buttered Tiger Shrimp. I wrapped up with the Carrot Cake as well.

Evening Entertainment: Comedy, Karaoke, and Late-Night Laughs
After dinner, we grabbed a drink and headed to The Attic for the Adult Comedy Show. It was our first time attending this show, and while we were curious to see what it was all about, we honestly didn’t find it all that funny. Comedy can definitely be hit or miss, and this one was a miss for us.
With some time to spare before our next event, we made our way to Cask and Clipper for another drink and then wandered over to Spotlight Karaoke. The place was absolutely packed—so much energy in the room! It was fun to watch fellow cruisers show off their karaoke skills.
Of course, no late-night stroll is complete without a quick bite, so we made a stop at Sorrento’s for a slice of pizza. Tonight’s special was one of my all-time favorites: Primavera—loaded with olive oil, garlic, spinach, and mixed veggies. Delicious as always!
The Quest: A Wild & Hilarious First
We wrapped up the night at Studio B with another first for us—The Quest. We’ve heard tons of buzz about this adults-only game show, and it definitely lived up to the hype. It was absolutely hilarious, full of unexpected moments, and had the whole crowd roaring with laughter. We totally get why it’s a late-night adults-only event—it’s wild, fun, and a perfect way to end the night.
Wrap Up: Why Roatan, Honduras Shocked Us—in the Best Way on Our Cruise
What started as a low-expectation port day turned into another fun and memorable stop. From the newly upgraded port area to poolside relaxation, and lively entertainment, Roatan really delivered this time around. It was the first time we ever got off the ship twice in one day—and we’re so glad we did!
If Roatan is on your itinerary, don’t write it off—give it a second chance. You might be just as surprised as we were!
